The Scottsdale Studio of Music has brought music to hundreds of families since opening in 2009. Our teachers are highly skilled, personable and friendly, and are dedicated to enriching our students and families through music. When you become a student with us, you can be sure that you’re learning from the best. Our teachers personalize their lessons to you, so that you can acquire an excellent musical foundation, while learning the style of music that you choose.

Families can take piano, voice, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, violin, cello, clarinet, and/or ukulele in one location. Taking lessons at a school like ours allows students to be part of a musical community which brings camaraderie between music students. Our music students are inspired and motivated by interacting and collaborating with other students at their own level or with more advanced students. These opportunities are unavailable when music lessons are taken at a music store, in-home or from a private teacher.
We offer both in person as well as online lessons to students of all ages. We also work with students who have special needs.
Why I started the Business
I started the music academy with the goal of providing a nurturing and inspiring environment for students age 3+ to develop their skills and pursue their passion for music. My vision is to create a community where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can come together to learn, grow, and express themselves through music. By sharing our teachers’ knowledge, experience, and love for music, we aim to empower others to discover their unique talents in music and ultimately, to help them achieve their musical dreams. Through scottsdale studio of music, our hope is to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and contribute to the enrichment of the local arts and cultural scene.

About Me
A native of Harbin, China, pianist Tong Liu is on the rise to become a multifaceted musician. She is passionate about performing, teaching and being an owner of Scottsdale Studio of Music. She was determined to pursue a career in music when she was commuting twelve hours on the train from Harbin to Beijing to take piano lessons. Since her education in America, she has appeared as both soloist and accompanist world-wide. Most recent performances include North Carolina, California, Idaho, Las Vegas, and Utah in United States; along with Luxembourg in Europe and major cities in China.  She will be premiering at Carnegie Hall in 2021. Ms. Liu has performed well in piano competitions including Musicians West Piano Competition and Idaho Federation of Music Competition. Tong was also the winner of the concerto competition at BYU-Idaho, where she performed Schumann A minor piano concerto with the BYUI Orchestra. As a scholarship receiver of Brevard Music Center Festival, Edward Auer summer workshop, and Vianden Music Festival; she had a chance to study with Craig Nies, Edward Auer, Junghwa Moon Auer, Nicolas Roth, Yoshi Akimoto, and Anthony Padilla. She is also an active performer for masterclasses, where she was critiqued by Paul Barnes, Asaf Zohar, Geoffrey Burleson, and Anton Nel to name a few.
As a member of Music Teachers National Association and Certified Teacher with Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada; Tong Liu not only maintains a busy performance schedule but also runs a successful piano studio. She has brought many performance opportunities to her students throughout the greater Salt Lake City area. Many of her students have participated in the Monster Concert at University of Utah, as well as benefit concerts based in Salt Lake City. Her students have performed well in Royal Conservatory of Music Exams and were invited to the Gala Concert. She held student recitals every year to encourage her students to perform for the audience. She does not limit her piano teaching to private settings. She also teaches group piano lessons for the University of Utah outreach program as well as online theory classes. As a judge, Tong had also judged for Idaho Music Teachers Association piano festivals and panel jury for Mundi Pathways where she works with talented young performers to bring piano recitals to various elementary schools in Salt Lake City and a virtual concert.  She enjoys teaching and hopes to share her passion of music through her knowledge and to change students’ perspective on music.
Tong Liu finished her Master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy at the University of Utah where she was on scholarship. Before studying at the University of Utah, she completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with full-ride scholarship. She had also spent two years at California State University, Stanislaus. Her education in China included studying with Dr. Tong Bo, professor at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
Under the ownership of Tong Liu since 2023, Scottsdale Studio of Music has grown tremendously and are serving more and more students throughout the valley. We are looking forward to have more ESA students joining our studio and enjoy their music lessons!
