Summer reading programs are a given—but what if summer math got just as much attention?
As a former homeschooler, I remember very well the annual struggle with my mom to get back into the swing of things — especially in math. The math skills I had mastered by spring always felt frustratingly rusty after a summer of outdoor adventures, vacations, and sprawling pillow forts that inevitably consumed the entire living room.
My mom—a true champion—patiently guided me through the basics to revive what I had forgotten. But now as an educator with 13 summers of watching kids return to school with rusty math skills, I wonder how much easier that transition would have been on us both if we’d paid as much attention to reviewing math facts over the summer as we did to reading the latest Nancy Drew books.
Mathnasium’s customized program is specifically designed to not just maintain skills over the summer, but to actually strengthen them. Many students enroll in Mathnasium to maintain their skills, only to find themselves advancing ahead of their peers.
And to make parents’ lives easier, we’ve built in TONS of fun to encourage attendance and build enthusiasm — prizes, treats, games, and dedicated, personable instructors. Believe it or not, Mathnasium often becomes a highlight of a student’s summer! We are a ClassWallet vendor and offer drop-in sessions (no prescheduling necessary!).
It may sound too good to be true, but this fall doesn’t have to bring the dreaded math struggle. Visit your local Mathnasium and see for yourself — your August self will thank you.
